Frequently Asked Questions

How long and how frequent are counselling sessions for children?
Counselling sessions are held weekly or fortnightly and where possible at the same time to maintain some consistency and predictability for the child. Sessions last for up to 60minutes, they may be shorter depending on the child's age.

What should I tell my child about why they are coming to counselling?
You may adapt the following according to situation and circumstance. When things are hard at school, at home, with friends or with things changing at home, it can help to have a special place just for you with someone who is there to listen.

What should I say to my child when their counselling session has finished?
Listen, be positive and encourage. Sometimes children may want to talk about their session, but sometimes they may not. It is ok to ask how the session was, but is important to follow your child's lead and respect their right to privacy.
